Fire risk remains despite rain

Firefighters are warning Kiwis to remain fire vigilant despite rain falling on some parts of the country over the weekend.

The Fire Service is battling one of the most extreme seasons it has faced in recent times with the dry conditions causing more fires than usual.

A fire today on the outskirts of Martinborough in Wairarapa swallowed twenty hectares of trees before firefighters could put it out.
